If you are missing one or more teeth and want to regain your full eating comfort and natural smile, it is worth considering implants. The implant treatment process not only restores your aesthetics, but also improves your oral health by preventing bone atrophy and shifting of your remaining teeth. At our Polish clinic in the UK, we carry out this procedure in a safe, accurate and tailored to your needs. And what exactly does it look like?
Why rely on implants and when do they work?
Implants are an extremely durable and stable solution. Instead of merely masking a missing tooth, they replace it completely. They imitate the natural root and restore full functionality to the dentition both aesthetically and in terms of use.
They work well both in the absence of a single toothThey are suitable for both a few cavities and complete toothlessness. They provide comfort in everyday life, eliminating the need to wear removable dentures, as they are securely set in the bone and function like natural teeth.
Furthermore, in the case of unfavourable bone conditions, additional procedures can be used. We refer to procedures such as sinus lift or bone augmentation to ensure the safety and durability of the procedure.

What does a dental implant look like?
Before going on to discuss the implant treatment process, we will take a moment to explain what a dental implant looks like.
An implant is a small titanium screw that acts as an artificial root. It is inserted into the bone of the maxilla or mandible and, after a period of healing, serves as a stable base for a prosthetic crown.
Thanks to modern materials, implants are completely biocompatible, which means that the body accepts them and they fuse with the bone in the process of osteointegration. After treatment, the whole thing looks and functions like a natural tooth.

What the whole implant treatment process looks like - step by step
- Consultation and diagnosis.
Treatment begins with a detailed history. This is followed by an oral examination and diagnostic imaging (X-ray, CT scan) to assess the condition of the bone, gums and plan a safe treatment. You can read more about this stage in our article "Implant consultation - what does it look like?" - Implant insertion (surgical part).
Under local anaesthesia, an implant (titanium screw) is inserted into the bone. The procedure takes approximately 20-120 minutes, is completely painless and carried out under sterile conditions. We wrote more about implant placement in an article with a similar title "Dental implant - Frequently asked questions and answers" - Integration of the implant into the bone (osteointegration).
This is a crucial stage, lasting from a few weeks to a few months - during which time the implant fuses with the bone and stabilises. - Exposure of the implant and preparation of the gingiva (healing screw).
Once the implant has been integrated, the dentist inserts a healing screw that moulds the gingiva, creating an aesthetic base for the crown. - Prosthetic part and crown restoration.
An impression or scan is then taken and a crown (e.g. porcelain or zirconia) is made and fitted to the implant. The whole stage usually takes 1-4 weeks. - Post-treatment checks.
Regular follow-up visits allow you to monitor healing, maintain hygiene and respond to any abnormalities.

How long does the entire implant treatment process take?
Treatment time depends on the complexity of the case.
Normally, without additional treatments, it takes about 8-16 weeks. If bone restoration is required or the treatment involves full edentulousness, the process can extend up to several months and, in exceptional cases, a year.
Each patient receives an individualised treatment plan and projected timetable.
