Who is orthodontic treatment for?

Adults

Wondering if it's too late for braces? It isn't. More and more adult patients are opting for orthodontic treatment. Modern braces - ceramic, sapphire and Damon Clear selfligating braces - are discreet and comfortable to wear.

The benefits go beyond aesthetics: a correct bite facilitates daily hygiene, reduces the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, and eliminates temporomandibular joint problems.

Children and young people

It is a good idea to schedule the first visit to the orthodontist around the age of 7 - this is when the first permanent teeth appear and it is possible to assess whether the bite is developing correctly.

In children, early intervention allows us to take advantage of natural bone growth to correct defects. We use removable braces, twin block and fixed metal braces with coloured elastics, which are very popular with young patients.

Standard fixed braces

Classic braces with brackets bonded to the teeth. Precise, proven and available in several aesthetic options.

Metal £800 per bow

The most versatile appliance. Durable, effective in all types of malocclusion. In children available with coloured elastics.

Ceramic £1,100 per bow

Tooth-coloured brackets - less visible than metal. A good choice for adult patients who care about aesthetics.

Sapphire (crystal) £1,100 per bow

Transparent brackets made of synthetic sapphire. The most aesthetic option among fixed appliances - virtually invisible.

Self-ligating braces

Damon system - locks without elastics. The wire slides freely in the lock, reducing friction and reducing treatment time. Follow-up visits less frequent - every 8-10 weeks.

Damon metal £1,100 per bow

Damon Q metal brackets - smaller than standard, more comfortable to wear. Faster treatment results due to lower friction.

Damon Clear £1,400 per bow

Damon Clear selfligating brackets. They combine the advantages of the Damon system with maximum aesthetics - popular with adult patients.

Removable braces

Removable appliances - mainly used for children and adolescents in the early bite correction phase. Easy to maintain hygiene.

Movable 1 arch - adults £400

Movable 2 arches - adults £800

Twin Block (2 arches) £600

A two-piece functional appliance that corrects the position of the mandible. Mainly used for children and adolescents during the growth phase - utilises natural bone development to correct bite.

Removable braces - children up to 18 years of age

  • 1 arc: £400
  • 2 bows: £800

Retention - after removal of the camera

Removing the braces is only half the battle. Without retention, the teeth revert to their original alignment. Retainers maintain the effects of treatment for years.

Retainer fixed £150 per bow

Thin wire glued behind the teeth - works 24/7, no need to remember to put it on. Keeps teeth in their new alignment.

Essix retainer £200 per arch with models

Transparent tooth cap. Removable for eating and brushing. Worn at night or as directed by the doctor.

Rubber ligatures £60 per replacement

Coloured elastics and elastic chains. Replacement at each follow-up visit - children can choose the colours.

What does orthodontic treatment look like?

1. Consultation

Examination, X-ray (OPG), discussion of the problem and initial treatment plan. The consultation lasts approximately 30 minutes.

2. treatment plan

3D models, cephalometric images, detailed pricing and timetable. We discuss payment options.

3. fitting the apparatus

The brackets are bonded to the teeth - a painless procedure lasting approximately 1 hour. Care of the braces is discussed.

4 Follow-up visits

Every 4-10 weeks - replacement of wires, correction, monitoring of progress. Duration of treatment: 12-24 months.

5. retention

Once the braces are removed, a retainer is fitted. It maintains the effects for years. This is the last but very important stage.

Frequently asked questions

The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the malocclusion. For simple cases - from 6 to 12 months. For more complex defects - from 18 to 24 months. At the initial consultation, the doctor will provide an estimated treatment time for your case.

The fitting procedure itself is painless. In the first few days after the braces are fitted, your teeth may be sensitive and you may feel a slight pressure sensation - this is a normal reaction that passes after a few days. A painkiller (e.g. Ibuprofen) will suffice for this period.

It is a good idea to schedule the first visit around the age of 7, when the first permanent teeth appear. This doesn't mean that treatment has to start that early - it's about assessing whether the bite is developing correctly and whether it's worth scheduling an intervention.

Yes, with minor restrictions. Hard foods (nuts, apples, carrots) are worth cutting into smaller pieces. Sticky caramel, chewing gum and hard sweets can damage the locks. Other than that - food without much change.

Yes. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. Teeth can be moved at any age, as long as the gums and bones are healthy. More and more adults are opting for treatment - aesthetic ceramic braces and Damon Clear braces are virtually invisible.
