What does a dental bridge look like and how much does it cost?

If you are struggling with the loss of one or more teeth, consider getting a prosthetic bridge. With today's technology, no one will be able to notice that your smile isn't quite yours! A dental bridge is the perfect way to permanently replace your missing teeth and enjoy a beautiful smile that makes you feel comfortable. Read what it looks like and how much it costs.

Tooth bridge - what does it involve?

But let's start by saying that a dental bridge is a great way to fill in the gap left by one or more teeth! It is permanently fitted in the mouth. It is usually attached to two polished permanent teeth on either side of the cavity or cavities. You could say that it is several crowns connected to each other.

Not only does it look good, it also prevents displacement of the tooth decay, as well as gum disease and caries. Filling cavities is very important. Ignoring this problem can even lead to them becoming unstable!

Is this solution for everyone?

If you need a cavity replacement, a dental bridge is a very good idea. There is one condition you must meet. The bridge must have something to rest on, so too many cavities may be a contraindication. Then a denture will be better! You can read about these in our article: "Prosthetic treatment in the UK - everything you need to know".

What else could be an obstacle to putting on a bridge? If the adjacent teeth that are supposed to provide support are weak, rotten - they will not do their job. It is therefore very important to heal any holes before a prosthetic bridge is fitted.

A dental bridge - what does it look like?

We've got good news - a dental bridge... you can't see it. As we mentioned earlier, visually it is no different from natural teeth. Nowadays, you can perfectly match the shape as well as the colour. A bridge is a splint on which the "new" teeth (or tooth) are fixed and attached against the surrounding teeth. These, in order to perform their new role well, must be ground down and completely healthy. Sometimes root canal treatment is necessary. In our clinic, we do this under the microscope. What does it look like to put a bridge on my teeth?

Before you put a bridge on your teeth, it is essential to have an X-ray. The dentist will then assess whether inflammation is developing anywhere and whether the surrounding teeth are in good condition. The dentist will also assess gum condition. If necessary, he will implement treatment. When every tooth in the mouth is completely healthy, then it is time for the next step.

And this next step is precisely the grinding of the surrounding teeth, to prepare them for their new role of supporting a bridge. The specialist then takes an impression from which this prosthetic solution will be created. At the next appointment, if everything is in order - it will be fitted. In between visits, the ground teeth are secured with temporary crowns.

Don't worry - with local anaesthesia the procedure will not be painful. You can read about anaesthesia in our article: "Dental anaesthesia at the dentist in the UK. Is it always necessary, what does it involve and how much does it cost?".

Teeth bridge - how much does it cost?

In our clinic, it is possible to place a metal-framed bridge and a zirconium oxide/all-ceramic bridge. These cost £400 and £450 per point respectively. The choice of material is decided by the prosthodontist. A fibreglass-based bridge is also possible. This is a slightly cheaper option at £210.

Are you concerned that a prosthetic bridge is too big an expense for your wallet? Don't worry. In our clinic, it is possible to have treatment by instalments! The first 12 months are zero interest, meaning you pay back exactly what you spent.
