Placing veneers in the UK - contraindications, procedure and price

More and more people are thinking about getting veneers in the UK. This is not surprising, as veneers allow you to achieve the perfect shape and colour of your teeth. If you are also considering this solution we have taken you the most important information about contraindications, the whole procedure of putting veneers on and their price.

And what exactly is a veneer?

It is nothing more than a thin overlay (0.5 - 0.7 mm) that is applied to the front of the teeth. It is most often made of composite or porcelain.

There are a lot of advantages to using veneers. With them you can not only change the colour of your teeth, but also their shape, length or width. Thus getting rid of yellow teeth, discolouration, gaps between teeth or crooked teeth. You can read more about what the shape of your teeth depends on in our articles and "Crooked teeth - causes and how to get rid of an embarrassing smile" and "Grandma's smile, or how genes affect teeth".

It is also worth noting that veneers are less affected by deposits and tartar and are more resistant to staining. We wrote more about veneers and their types in our article "Dental veneers in the UK. Everything you need to know".

However, this solution is not for everyone.

What are the contraindications to having veneers fitted?

The first contraindication to the fitting of veneers is poor dental health. All teeth must be healthy before veneers are placed. Thus, if you have cavities or are struggling with decay, you must expect dental treatment.

Another contraindication is bruxism, That is, the unconscious and habitual clenching and grinding of teeth. This can cause veneers to peel off. The same can happen if you are struggling with malocclusion. IMPORTANT: Veneers are not a substitute for orthodontic treatment. You can read more about this in our material "Orthodontic treatment in the UK"

It is also not possible to place veneers on teeth that are too short and small. It's also worth consulting your dentist if you suffer from gum disease or periodontitis. And if you are struggling with periodontitis make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible, untreated it can lead to tooth loss. What does it look like to put on veneers?

As we have already mentioned, to have veneers fitted your teeth must be healthy. If you opt for this solution, you will also need to have tartar and plaque removed in the surgery, i.e. have a hygienization procedure performed (you can read exactly what this involves here here).

If you've had it up to here, you can get a beautiful smile with veneers after just a few visits, it all depends on the type of veneers you choose.

The process of placing veneers always begins with a dental consultation. During the consultation, you and your dentist will determine the colour and shape of your teeth, as well as the number of veneers to be fitted. They are most commonly placed on 6 teeth in the upper and lower arch. During the visit, the dentist will also take an impression, on the basis of which the veneers will be created.

The next visit is a 'fitting' of your new teeth. At this stage, you can still make comments about the colour or shape of the veneers.

Next - is the preparation of the teeth. To do this, part of the enamel (approximately 0.5mm) has to be ground away and temporary veneers are placed on the teeth. These are intended to protect the teeth until the permanent veneers are fitted. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic.

The last visit has already been to place the veneers.
